From Handyman to Candylane

The above picture is our old fireplace. After paying between $400 to $500 a month for electric last winter, Tim and I decided it was time to get the fireplace inspected and cleaned out so that we could use it. Boy were we in for a rude awakening! The previous owners really "screwed" it up (to put it lightly). We ended up having to replace the whole insert and liner. Although we really miss the "antiquary" look of our old insert, it is nice to have a fireplace that is safer and works. I guess it all comes with being a home owner. We still have some work to do with the new insert, some of the old brick is exposed. I also had to remove all the decorations because of the heat from the fire. Tim custom built a baby gate to keep Bennett from burning himself. I LOVE IT! I really didn't want a plastic gate up and the one he made looks so much nicer. I love having my own handyman around. I'll have to post more pictures of the fireplace once we get it all cleaned up.
Yesterday was our annual family trip to Hershey Park Candylane. We changed things up this year by taking the boys to see "The Christmas Carol" in 3D. I was nervous about taking Bennett to his first movie. He was very well behaved for the beginning (probably because he had popcorn) but only lasted to the part where Scrooge meets the Christmas Ghost of Past. I ended up in the lobby with him until Tim rescued me to see the end. I thought the movie deserved more than just the one star critics gave. It was too scary for the boys (Nathan thinks Scrooge is a witch). As Sommer says, "It ain't no Mickey's Christmas Carol!"
After our movie and dinner, we headed to Hershey park. Bennett enjoyed the lights, rides, and commotion all around. It was definitely more exciting than last year. It was funny to see him so quiet. He is normally very loud and talkative. We think that he was shocked into silence. Maybe we should take him there more often!

Tonight was our ward Christmas party. We took Bennett to see Santa and he was laughing and pointing at him the whole time we waited in line. We thought this was a good sign and that we would get a picture of him smiling. Well...what a disappointment it was that as soon as he sat on Santa's lap he screamed and held on to Tim for dear life. Maybe we will have better luck next year!

Everyone needs a picture of their child screaming on Santa's lap. It's a right of passage.

Forget Scroog and the ghosts, Santa is the real scary guy...at least to the under 3 crowd. I think all of our kids (we are counting on Clara to continue the tradition) have at least 1 if not 2 pictures of them barely leanring in for the candy as mom or dad hold them next to Santa and are either screaming or stopped crying long enough to get the candy in their vision. Glad to hear you are keeping Tim busy:)
