Umm... What Were We Thinking?

Last Monday Sommer and I thought it would be fun to take the boys to the Washington, D.C. Zoo. We headed to D.C. bright and early. We were all in cheerful spirits. The ride down was smooth and we were so excited to see the D.C. Temple on the highway. Little did we know that everything was perfect. A little too perfect! We tried to get to the zoo in time for parking. Well... it looks like every other parent of school age children had the same idea as us. We could not believe that at 10:30 (the park opened at 10:00) ALL parking spots were filled. So while we waited an hour to get out of the zoo to find some city parking we entertained the boys with made up stories of mananimals. Yes, you heard correctly. Mananimals are animals that look like men with construction hats. Those little boys are so gullible!
We finally got into the zoo almost 2 hours after we arrived. By this time we were a little less cheerful. Okay, I'll admit it. We were tired, hot and cranky.
We decided to leave after only two hours (and about a dozen temper tantrums). Everyone was shutting down. It was WAY TOO crowded. We did have fun looking at the animals.
So.... on the way home, which should have taken no longer than 1 hour, we got stuck in traffic that lasted 3 and a half hours. Lesson learned: don't go to D.C. Zoo or D.C. period the day after Easter with three boys under the age of 3, one pregnant woman and 80 degree weather!

I hate when well laid plans go to pot.
