10 Reasons Why I Love...

... MY SISTER!

1. Sommer and I are 16 months apart. We have grown up feeling like we were twins. We have had (and still have) many love/hate moments. She is still my best friend. Even though Sommer is younger than me, I look up to her.
2. I know that I can always be myself around Sommer. She has seen the best of me and the worse of me. Sommer doesn't care if I look like the walking dead. She loves me for me.
3. Who wouldn't love a sibling that listens to their advice? I mean.... the kid peed on the floor after I told her to! Quote from Sommer's November 16th blog: "When I was 5 I was TERRIFIED of the Abominable Snowman from Rudolph, and one day I was afraid to go to the bathroom alone because I was convinced that he would jump out at me from behind the shower curtain. I begged my sister to go with me to the bathroom because I had to go so bad but she wouldn't. She told me to just pee on the floor and she wouldn't tell anyone. Well alas I was desperate and scared so I peed on the floor and she ran downstairs and told my dad. He came up and spanked me and I had to sit in the corner for a VERY long time!"

4. Sommer was the peacemaker when we were little. She took many spankings because of me! There were times when I wouldn't fess up to doing something wrong and my sister would say that she did it just because she was tired of the tension. Poor Sommie! I still feel guilty.
5. When I was around 6 years old and Sommer was 5, she got a new bike for her birthday. It was a beautiful pink bike with the infamous Barbie logo on it. One day my dad came home and mentioned that there was a family at church that had a little girl that was in the need of a bike (I think that family couldn't afford one). My dad asked us if we would be willing to give up one of our bikes. Sommer, knowing how much I loved my old purple bike, gave up hers without any hesitation.
6. Not only was Sommer my best friend growing up, she was my playmate. I can remember the time when Sommer was really sick and couldn't play with me. I felt so lonely! She laid on her top bed of our bunk bed and encouraged me to play by myself. It's so strange looking back on how dependent I was on my little sister!
7. We had so much fun making up little games together. We shared a room up until we were around 10 years old. Instead of going to sleep, we would lay in bed and play Red Light/Green Light with our voices, tell stories, sing songs, and much more. She would love it when I would kick the bed up with my feet and cause her mattress to "float". (It wasn't so fun the couple of times when she and the mattress fell on me.) I still laugh today at the time when she snuck one of her Barbies to bed. She leaned over the side of the top bunk with her Barbie and waved it in the air. It was that moment when she flipped off the bed and fell on to the floor. Boy did she get in trouble! There were many a nights when Mom would yell, "GIRLS! GO TO BED!"
8. When we got a little bit older, Sommer and I kept the tradition of sleeping in the same room on Christmas Eve. One time we woke up pinching, kicking, pulling each other's hair and scratching each other. Apparently Sommer had rolled over in her sleep and smacked me in the face We ended up beating each other up over it!
9. If one of us was in pain, so was the other. Sommer and I spent around 8 years of our childhood dancing. There were many a times when one of us would trip on our crooked sidewalk, rip our little tights, and skin our knees. My mom would go crazy over the two of us bawling just because one got hurt. Even when we were in our, "I hate you" moments, we still hated the other being in pain.
10. There is no one else on this earth that loves to watch "Duck Tales" together as much as we do. Yeah... I'll admit it. We still get gitty when we watch it together. Pathetic, I know.
I LOVE MY SISTER!

You do have a wonderful sister and you are just as wonderful in return. I crack up when I hear you two tell stories. Your poor parents. You gave them a run for their money. I am shocked your mom hasn't gone gray yet. LOL.

Awwww Ashley, that was so sweet! It made me cry! I guess I can forgive you for putting some of the ugliest pictures up of me ever!!!!! What a sweet little suprise. It was fun remembering all our dorky little moments, you forgot about the pencil poking in the head contests we did when we were little, lol. I love you so much Ash!

What a sweet entry. I can't wait for my girls to feel this way about one another. I know it will come, it's just hard watching the days they're at each others throat. Sisters... you can't live with them, you can't live without them.

Haha that's way cute, Ashley. I do remember siding with Sommer on more than one occasion, when she would come to school with a new wound caused in your latest fight. But it's touching to see the love you have for eachother despite all that! It's like me and my brother Nathan. Oh thank goodness for siblings!
