One Last Hurrah

After two trial runs in our backyard (one successful, the other we still try not to think about), Tim, Sommer, and I braved taking three boys under the age of three camping. Although the trip was far from relaxing, the memories were worth it! It is so much fun seeing the Nathan and Brandon interact with Bennett. Bennett looks up to his cousins and tries so hard to copy them. Nathan and Bennett do not get along (Sommer and I have already had to separate the boys from hitting and hair pulling). Brandon and Bennett seem to be best of friends. Brandon knows all the right things to do and say to crack that boy up!
The 8:00 bedtime was not happening. These boys were too hyped up to sleep in a tent. It wasn't until a little after 10:00 that the boys finally conked out.
The next morning we decided to let Sommer sleep and relax a little. Tim had the bright idea to take the boys on a 3 mile hike. It seemed like no big deal, we LOVE to hike. Turns out that Tim took us on the trail marked most difficult. Two thirds of it was up the mountain on the Appalachian Trail. An hour hike ended up taking us three hours! The boys did pretty good for such a rough hike. I will NOT do this hike again with three little boys.
You can't tell from this picture, but Nathan and Brandon are "beating up" mushrooms with their hiking sticks. For a little more than a mile we "hunted" mushrooms for the boys to attack. It was the only way we could get them to walk. Nathan kept yelling "I beat up mushrooms! I beat it up!". I don't promote violence, but desperate times call for desperate measures!
We couldn't pass up stripping the boys down and letting them play in the creek. I was okay until Brandon picked up a dead crayfish.
The boys loved swinging on the hammock that Tim set up by the tent.
This is Brandon's "little slide" that he created next to the site. It provided many hours of entertainment. We can't wait for our annual camping trip next summer!

That sounds like so much fun! I'm glad you got to go out and do that before heading back to school. Those boys will sure love it next year too, I'll bet!
You're brave to take three little ones on a hike. I love the hunting mushrooms. Good idea there!

Yeah! I am so happy the boys have someone to take them camping in the good ol outdoors. Although their daddy is a WONDERFUL father I know that camping is not on his list of fun things to do. Especially with his allergies. Anyway, I am glad they have such a wonderful aunt and uncle. I only wish I could have been their to join in the fun. I must admit that I am a little green with envy. I sure miss you guys and Bennett is so stinkin cute. He is getting so big. I can't believe how blonde his hair is.

Miss you guys! Love you tons!

I am always amazing when I hear of people taking little kids camping w/ them. You are so brave and talented. I would lose my mind... but then again, I hate camping and would never go if I had a choice in the matter! lol.
Glad ya'll made some nice memories together!! I love the mushroom fighting story and the pic. of the kids in the creek is so cute!
